TEACHER BLOGS FOR LESSON PLANS AND OTHER ACTIVITES
Chalk Pastel Silhouettes
I really love this idea because it teaches the kids about the different types of creating people in art. Silhouettes give an illusion of a person or make a shadow of someone. You could turn this into a lesson about early civilization with cave paintings and prehistoric art and tie it with history class, if they are learning about that subject.
Symmetric Butterflies
This is a great activity for elementary school children because it teaches the basics of color and introduces the concept of symmetry while also incorporating nature into this project. This would work well with a science course featuring nature and even the life cycle of butterflies. The class could even go outside and experience nature in the flesh and see butterflies in their natural habitat.
Kandinsky Abstract
This activity is great for teaching kids about famous artists and their work. Kandinsky is an abstract artist and this is a good way of showing kids the different types of art and how their work can be influenced by actual artists. This teaches kids about watercolor and the process of creating something with sharpies and the watercolor paints and different techniques of art.
Day of the Dead
Day of the Dead is an interesting holiday that most kids won't know about. This is a good activity for middle school kids because of the materials, (clay and the clay tools) because younger kids couldn't handle the needle tools and it probably wouldn't be safe for them to use anyway. This could be done during Day of the Dead celebration so they kids could learn about the history of the Day of the Dead and the culture behind it.
Van Gogh Sunflowers
This activity includes motor skills and is good for kids who are young because they can paste the tissue paper, so they can have control over what they glue and it doesn't have to be perfect because it is supposed to have texture. This is also a good history lesson of a great artist and his particular style of work. Instead of paint, we will be using tissue paper to make the texture. This is good for kids and they can learn about famous artists.
